Rainbow Blending Version
1 We took the
exact same colors of roving, the same amounts but carded them
differently. You will see the results of our color experiment
on this page and HERE. |
We start off by showing you the colors already arranged on the
carder. You can lightly tamp down with a flicker brush to
compact the fibers together and fit more on your drum |
Once you have your fibers carded to your liking, doff at the
seams. |
This is a home made diz made out of PVC pipe. |
It is 1/2 inch PVC pipe with part of it cut out. Two
sizes of holes were made for different sizes of rovings. |
Pull a little of the fibers together and pinch together to
thread through the diz. |
Gently but firmly start pulling your fibers through the diz. |
| There
are three ways you can pull your fibers through the diz.

1) Hold the handle of the carder and pull with your other
hand.

2) Hold the fibers on the end of the carder and pull the
fibers or

3) Grasp the fibers with one hand and pull with the other.
You only want to pull (draft) your fibers enough to get them
through your diz. |
Pull your fibers through the diz firmly but carefully so you
don't end up breaking them. |
Continue drafting the fibers and pulling through the diz until
you get to the end of your roving. |
Following this guide you will make a roving that has very
distinct color separations. The colors remain in the same
order as they were on the carder. |
You can see that the colors are very bold and colorful. |
