ANOTHER PROJECT COMPLETED

Mood: calm   Knitting: Baby Nothings Socks

Still having some email issues.  It seems like it’s an actual server issue as the person who is hosting my website is also having a problem getting emails.  So…umm…well…I guess we just need to roll with the punches.

Sunday the kids had a blast at the church picnic.  They had pony rides, a giant slide, and all kinds of things.  The weather was just right for it so all was well. It’s going to be a busy week here.  We are going to meet up with some children from a home school co-op today and I am reallyexcited about that.  We have been somewhat isolated the past few months so connecting with other home school families will be awesome.  They also meet all summer long just one day a week (Tuesdays) so that will give us something to look forward to as well.  Plus, hubby has a unit picnic on Friday which is an all day event.  Then of course, throw in the assorted errands, chores, date with the dye pot and such and it will be interesting to see what I can get done.

I finished another prayer shawl yesterday.  I had seriously thought of keeping this one as it would look great with a black dress I haven’t bought yet and hubby’s dress blues for the annual ball later this year.  But as I finished it, I realized that I need to send it to the original person I had intended it for, so it will be sent off later this week.   I still need to rinse it to make sure all the dye is out of it.  I bought this yarn and was told to rinse it one more time.  So, without further ado, here’s the Altantic Moonglow wrap

and a close up of the weaving

The warp is cotton that is dyed a Navy, Burgundy, Teal, and Purple and the weft is tencel that is a reddish/purple.  I had to double the weftand it was an easy weave.

Hope you all have a great day.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

Monday, May 29th, 2006

Hug a veteran, hug an active duty soldier (or their family member).  The sacrifices made have kept Americans free.  Whether you belive in war or whatever your political beliefs are, military members and their families pay the ultimate sacrifice in freedom. Freedom isn’t always free, but it sure is nice to have.

FOODIE FRIDAY FOR 26-May

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Sorry I am late on this…I know yesterday was Friday but my hubby was actually home and we spent time together as a family.  How awesome it was for him to cuddle on the couch with the kids and wrestle with them and just be here all day without the worry of work calling and ruining the day.  I will be back later today (I hope) with pictures of in progress works.  Got yarn painting to do.

In honor of Memorial Day and the unoffical start of summer, here’s a yummy sounding potato salad.  Haven’t made it yet…but will for Monday.

Loaded Baked Potato Salad

4 pounds potatoes (peeled)

1 pound bacon crisply cooked and cut into 1/2 inch pieces

4 ounces unsalted butter (softened)

1/2 cup chopped green onions

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 1/2 cups sour cream

salt and pepper to taste

mayo to your liking

Cook whole potatoes til fork tender, drain and refrigerate until cold.  Cut into 1 inch pieces.  (personally when I make potato salad I cut into pieces then boil..not sure how it will affect this recipe though)

Add with all other ingredients in a large bowl

Refrigerate at least 2 hours.

Be sure to taste and adjust any seasonings prior to serving.  The seasonings may taste different when cold.

Enjoy.  Have a happy and safe Memorial Day and remember those who served our country with their lives.

PTSD & A COMPLETED PROJECT

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

Knitting: Baby Nothing Socks   Spinning: Prayer Shawl

PTSD….post traumatic stress disorder…I believe this is a real thing.  Truly.  I think our family is suffering from that right now.  Everytime the phone rings we all going into shock and think it’s hubby’s work calling him in or for some stupid reason.  It really sends us all into a panic mode and the kids dread his phone ringing.

Here’s the finished prayer shawl that was on the loom.

The loom is warped for the next project…new socks have been casted on for…and I will spend the afternoon dyeing sock yarn.

By the way…we made another non-professional tutorial for you to learn to warp your loom by yourself using of all things…soda cans!

It’s been a Loooooooong Day

Saturday, May 20th, 2006

Mood: Tired   Tv: Food Network   Knitting: Mardi Gras socks

What do you do when you get up at 2:30 in the morning because the hubby has to go to work?

You warp another project on the loom, that’s what.  Of course, warping usually takes two people, but I tied four diet coke cans to my warp threads and ended up with a very (very) evenly tensioned warp.  I used the English Garden (which by the way has been renamed to Mardi Gras) to warp and some solid dyed purple as my weft

This is a prayer shawl for a friend whom I won’t name because I know this blog is read by her and I want it to sort of be a secret at least.

We’re just plain sick!

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

  Knitting: Parting Ways Socks

Seriously!

Tuesday night I sent two children to bed sick, Wednesday five children and one momma woke up sick. By last night the kids were feeling better, although one remains sick today (but has been medicated and sent back to bed).  Momma is tired but is plucking along.

Did manage to dye my yarn for my dye-o-rama partner this week, so it will be in the mail by tomorrow.  Received another custom dye order, so I need to get busy.

As promised here are pictures of the wrap I wove on my loom  (see I really can be called Woven ~N~ Spun now :) )

I used Rainbow Gems : Amethyst as the warp which is a self striping yarn (solid purple bands and then variegated rainbow bands).

Rainbow Gems : Amethyst

I used a lighter solid purple for the weft and here’s the results.  (I love it)

Rainbow Gems Wrap

Rainbow Gems Wrap

It’s 100% wool, 23 inches wide by 62 inches long and it’s just perfect for a quick warm up on a chilly morning or evening (not that we’ve had one of those around here lately)

In progress we have a sock (of course) using a Pattern called Parting Ways from Heart Strings Fiber and some of my English Garden variegated yarn:

English Garden sock

Pattern is working up very easy at this point.  First time I have done cuff down in quit awhile.  I am modifying by using one circ instead of the dpns called for so we will see how it goes when we get to the heel.  I worked on several more repeats this morning and will take another picture later.  I am thinking the pattern is getting lost in the variegated yarn, but we shall see how it turns out as I go on.  I can always take a dip in the frog pond if I need to.

All of the yarns you have seen here are available for sale (now in superwash 80% wool, 20% nylon)  Just contact me at kimberly @ wovenspun.com (remove the spaces please) and we’ll chat.  Have been way to busy working on custom orders to update my etsy shop so there’s not much there right now.

I should have a link up soon for a “working” wish list for my SP8 partner.  (thanks in advance who ever you are)  Obviously you can get something or nothing off that list.  I just like the thought of being spoiled.  With the past 7 months of not so great times I’ve had lately even my husband agrees I deserve to be spoiled.  I have already gotten a few things together for my SP and she should be looking for a box in the next week or two.

Hope you all have a great day.

I AM STILL HERE

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

Tv: Fox News   Knitting: another pair of baby socks

Truly I haven’t fallen off the planet.  Still trying to get this new computer loaded with my usual programs.  I had forgotten how many things I did on the lap top (as in everything) so it’s still a little slow going, but I am getting there.  I do need to upload the picture of my finished woven wrap, but it’s on the other computer and I am too lazy this morning to go to the other room and download it so I can upload it here.  Hey…we still haven’t gotten the two computers to speak to each other.  Right now we have been told it’s a conflict between the new computer and the old one.  There’s a firewall that is on this computer that is preventing them from speaking and we can’t turn the firewall off at this point.  At least we aren’t the only ones with this type of problem.  WHEW!

I have been busy on the fibery front.  I worked up a pair of baby socks using a pattern I made up.  They work up quick and use just scraps of yarn.  Hope to get the pattern edited and posted shortly.

Baby sock

We have a few colds going around the house, or just spring time allergies…nope, let’s be honest, they are colds.  The temps went from 90+ one week to 40 something the next…so it’s no wonder.

All kids finished their required school term and work and now we are just working on some “summer” projects.  Yee haa.

My Secret Pal 8 partner contacted me and I need to finish getting that wish list together.  I will work on that this week.

Hope you all have a great day.
