Pardon Their Noise…

ARMY LIFE

…it’s the sound of freedom.

These are just a few of the planes that fly directly over my house each day. We are in a direct path to the air strip. I haven’t been able to catch a decent picture of the fighter jets yet as I hear them after they pass by usually. Will keep trying though.
FAMILY
I promised a friend a picture of the kids on the trampoline with the water hose underneath it. It’s a great way for everyone to keep cool. It was hard to get a good action shot, so here’s the best I can do. You can see the stream of water underneath the trampoline and the “mist” above. The water does come through better then what’s shown in the picture though.
Today Josh turns 14. Hard to believe. He’s grown so much in the last 4 years he’s been with us. It’s not been easy for him (or us) but he’s getting to the point where he’s fun to be around. YAY! Happy birthday bubs!
WEAVING
I just took this picture while still on the loom, but I finished it today and it’s now in the washer taking a bath.
Hopefully, I can get a finished picture for you tomorrow. The warp is a hand painted warp available from Heritage Yarns. Margaret is awesome to deal with and is just chock full of knowledge. This colorway is called Wild Wood Flower and I hand dyed rayon Navy blue to use as weft.
This is a future project I want to make. Need to test the sett as I want to use a different yarn then the pattern calls for…but what do you think? Think I can do it?

I am willing to give it a try though. Oh and that skirt…umm…not sure it’s going to happen right now. I didn’t like how the cloth turned out for a skirt….it um…is calling to be dish towels…GO FIGURE since the towels wanted to be a blouse.

Photobucket issues

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Is anyone else having problems with photobucket?  I sign in and just go to a new page and get a 0. I can’t get further then that?  Anyone know what’s going on with that?  I want to upload some new photos to show off share.

Other then that, things are plodding along.  Hubby had his Levy briefing today to get all his paperwork together for leaving.  Still doesn’t have an exact leaving date yet, but we are looking at the first week in November.  Time is passing by all too quickly and will only go quicker starting next month.

We will head to Ohio mid month and then in October will head down to TX for a short trip.  Trying to do as many “family” things as possible before he leaves.

School continues to progress well for us which is a first and I am taking every bit of it that I can get as I feel things will head to the tank after Jim leaves.  Hopefully they won’t stay there long, but ya never know.

I know this is a brief update but it’s all I have for now.  Hopefully, I can get this photo bucket issue resolved (or find a new photo sharing place..suggestions are welcomed) and share some things with you.

Yes I wrote all over my child

  Weaving: Cloth for skirt

What better way to teach the bones of the body then a live body right?  At least, that’s what I thought.  In science, we are studying the Human Body using the Answers in Genesis curriculum, “God’s Design for Life: The Human Body”.   I made print outs of a skeleton listing the bones in the body and told Josh to go change into his bathing suit.  He had no idea what we would do next.  After coming back into the classroom (aka the dining room) he was asked to stand on a chair and turn around.  I showed the other kids where the Lumbar Vertebrae was then proceeded to write that down his back.  This progressed until we covered all our bones.  I did get Josh’s permission to post this picture (and his brothers and sisters paid him to go outside and pose..too bad no one was out there to see him)

We finished up just as Jim came home for a quick lunch and he was able to share in our science class. Yes, he thought we were weird but he never remembered studying bones in school quite like this.  Of course when we move into the muscular system, will we do the same?  Who knows but it could be fun.

Thanks to all who have written regarding Jim leaving for a year.  It’s starting to sink in regarding all the things we have to do to prepare for him to be gone for awhile.  He’s putting in for leave and hopefully will be off for a bunch in October so we can do some cool family things.  A trip back to Ohio is planned for September or October along with a trip to Sea World and some camping.  We did tell the kids about Jim leaving and they took it well.  I really don’t think it will really sink in until it’s right in front of us, but we will get through it.  It will help them knowing that two other families in our home school co-op are going through the same thing.  One dad leaves in September and the other dad leaves towards the end of November.

Needed to Weave

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Chris and I wound warp chains last Thursday.  It was my intent to make dish towels.  However, the fabric spoke to me in a different way.

So, what do you do with 5 yards of woven cloth 11 inches wide?

Why, you make a blouse of course!

I am loving it and already planning my next blouse and matching skirt :)

Specs:

8/2 cotton blue and natural

11 inch in reed

5 yards woven cloth

Warp chains wound on Thursday night

Loom warped Friday and Saturday

Woven Saturday-Monday

Washed and sewn Monday night
