Dyeing Socks Black for
SOCKS FOR SOLDIERS
|
| |
| When
I receive a pair (s) of socks to be dyed black, I log it into the
computer first as to what was received, date received, and by
whom. |
| Next
I take the white (or whatever color) socks:

and organize them into batches in order to keep
them organized by knitter, size, etc

|
| Then,
the fun begins: |
Into a pot of water with detergent for a 30
minute pre-wash. |
Then, into a bucket of citric acid and water for
a 30 minute soak (this solution is necessary for the dye to
"take") |
| After
that, it's into yet another bucket. This time, it's dye and
we get another 30 minute soak.

What? Can't see them? Here they are

|
| After
thoroughly soaking in the dye bath, the socks get wrapped in
plastic wrap

|
| And
into the steamer for 30 minutes

|
| Then
another soak for about 30 minutes. Each batch is then placed in a
laundry bag

for a spin in the washer and dryer. |
If you look closely at each bag, you will see a
number that corresponds with each batch it belongs to. |
| After
each pair of socks is washed and dried, they are repackaged to the
label and bag they came in and sent back to Kim for distribution
to our soldiers
