Who
is Woven ~N~ Spun?
For the most part, Woven ~N~ Spun, is me, Kimberly. I run the website, create the designs, do the
knitting and crocheting, write the patterns, and just about everything else
that goes on with this site. However, Woven ~N~ Spun really
is a family affair.
I started crocheting when I was about 11 years old or
so. The grandmother of my oldest brother's girlfriend
taught me how to crochet a chain stitch. I tell you, for a
year, I had the best chain stitch around. I later taught
myself how to do other stitches and the fun really began. I made
blankets and weird dresses for my Barbie's and stuffed
animals. I sort of put crocheting aside when it didn't
look cool anymore and took up other interests including Machine
Embroidery. My first creations were created under the name
Kim's Kreations. Because my husband is in the Army,
I primarily started focusing on military related items, designs,
and the like and thus, The Stitch Sergeant was
born. For several years, I was busy creating all sorts of
things for machine embroidery and loving it, but I still found
time here and there to pick up my crochet hooks and create some
things.
Then came our children. Our first child joined our family first at
age 9. Fourteen months after his adoption was final a
sibling group of 4 came to live with us. Talk about culture shock.
Jim and I went from no children to 5 in a very short time.
All 5 of our children, having spent a significant time with
their birth families, came to us with some severe
challenges. God has been gracious and kind to us and has
allowed us to work with our children and we are slowly reforming
their behaviors and showing them what a loving family can really
be like.
Because we decided to home school all 5 children, The
Stitch Sergeant retired from active duty. However, I just
couldn't keep my creative mind and hands still. Woven
~N~ Spun took flight in March 2005. The name came
about from a Praise and Worship song. Since I love to
spin, crochet, knit, and because our family felt that God was
weaving our family together.
